Cairo: Spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Khaled Gad asserted on Thursday, 22 January 2026 that the ministry aims to increase exports of processed agricultural products by 2026 to maximize added value, pointing the intensive efforts being exerted to achieve this strategic goal.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Gad mentioned during a phone-in with Extra News TV channel that 2026 will witness a significant increase in exports of processed agricultural products, particularly in the fields of medicinal and aromatic plants and other sectors.
Gad explained that this shift toward exporting value-added products instead of raw materials will help create new job opportunities and enhance the competitiveness and quality of Egyptian products.
He noted that the unprecedented surge in Egyptian agricultural exports in 2025 resulted from a combination of factors, including intensified efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, especially in agricultural quarantine, regulatory laboratories, and international agricultural relations.
These efforts were complemented by the implementation of the farm coding system and comprehensive monitoring of products from the farm stage through to delivery to the consumer.
Gad highlighted that Egypt continues to top the global rankings in oranges and citrus fruits exports, emphasizing that it has also become one of the world's leading exporters of potatoes, sweet potatoes, vegetables, and several other agricultural products.
