PM: Julius Nyerere Dam Project Boosts Egypt’s Support for African Development

Egypt: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project are of great significance as they demonstrate the capabilities and potential of Egyptian national companies, with their professional teams, to implement major projects of this kind internationally, particularly in Africa. He said this reinforces Egypt's efforts to support development initiatives in African countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly stressed that the Egyptian consortium implementing the project had made an outstanding contribution, reaffirming Egypt's readiness to participate in the implementation of any development projects in its sisterly African countries. On the sidelines of the inauguration of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project in the United Republic of Tanzania, Madbouly said, 'This major development project has received the attention and support of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, along with his continued directives to advance its implementation and ensure that all its components and phases are carried out to the highest standards.'

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participated Saturday, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the inauguration ceremony of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project, implemented by the Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric in Tanzania. He was accompanied by a high-level official delegation comprising Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa el Menshawy, Alexandria Governor Ayman Attia, formerly deputy head of the consortium, Egypt's Ambassador to Tanzania Sherif Ismail, Arab Contractors Chairman Ahmed el Assar, Elsewedy Electric CEO and Managing Director Ahmed el Sewedy, and officials and representatives of the Egyptian consortium implementing the project.

Following an inspection tour of the project's various components, the inauguration ceremony of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project began in the presence of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Vice President Emmanuel John Nchimbi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Hussein Ali Mwinyi, and Tanzanian Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba. The ceremony opened with the national anthem. The event featured a presentation and a documentary showcasing the various stages of implementing the landmark strategic project, along with a variety of artistic and cultural performances. This was followed by speeches delivered by a number of senior Tanzanian officials and concluded with a keynote address by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
