Egyptian and Omani Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Maritime Security

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed, during a phone call held Saturday with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further develop them across various fields. The two ministers also exchanged views and assessments on the latest regional developments and issues of common interest.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the contact tackled the latest developments in the region, particularly those related to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Abdelatty stressed the critical importance of restoring normal maritime traffic and ensuring the security, safety and freedom of passage through the strait, given its direct implications for the global economy, energy security, supply chains, and international trade.

He underscored the importance of building on ongoing diplomatic efforts in a manner that would contribute to de-escalation and create the conditions for a return to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran and the resumption of the negotiating process, with a view to reaching a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that would enhance security and stability in the region.

The two ministers affirmed the need to continue consultations and close coordination during the coming period and intensify efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing the escalation from spreading, while prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions in a manner that safeguards the security and stability of the region.
