Egypt: Dar es Salaam Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan inspected the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Dam and Power Station project, marking a significant milestone with the unveiling of the project's commemorative plaque on August 22, 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the inspection tour included a detailed briefing for Madbouly on the dam project, executed by the Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric. The dam and power station stand as a testament to the collaborative development efforts between Egypt and Tanzania, representing one of the most prominent projects in African development cooperation.
The completion of the project by Egyptian companies highlights their capability in executing large-scale infrastructure projects, aiming to boost Tanzania's energy sector and economic capacity. The Julius Nyerere Dam, situated on the Rufiji River within the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania, is the largest hydroelectric power generation project in the country's history and showcases the effective strategic partnership between Egypt and Tanzania.
