Cairo: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty engaged in a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to address the regional situation and efforts towards de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions emphasized the importance of creating conditions conducive to de-escalation, whether through Oman-Iran negotiations or by resuming the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran on June 18, 2026. This memorandum aims to foster a comprehensive agreement that addresses regional security concerns.
Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of intensifying diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and achieve peaceful resolutions that could restore security in the region. He pointed out the importance of ensuring international navigation freedom and respecting the Gulf states' security, which would benefit all regional populations.
Furthermore, Abdelatty received insights from Araghchi regarding Iran's perspective on current developments, negotiation progress, and the challenges encountered.
