Egypt: Dar es Salaam Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam announced that the "Julius Nyerere" hydropower project is a significant national development undertaking for Tanzania. The project boasts a generation capacity of 2,115 megawatts, aimed at supporting Tanzania's energy requirements and development objectives.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the opening ceremony, Sewilam highlighted that the project, constructed on the Rufiji River by an Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, stands as a vital development achievement and exemplifies strategic infrastructure projects. He emphasized the project as a testament to the robust Egypt-Tanzania relationship and the trust placed in Egyptian expertise to execute complex ventures.
Furthermore, Sewilam noted that cooperation in water resources between Egypt and Tanzania began in 2007. He revealed ongoing plans for the development of 30 additional groundwater wells, two rainwater-harvesting dams, and various capacity-building programs, further strengthening bilateral ties.
