According to State Information Service Egypt, the Julius Nyerere Dam, situated on the Rufiji River in southern Tanzania, is the largest hydropower project in the country. It is recognized as one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives undertaken by Egyptian firms in Africa. The construction was carried out by the Egyptian consortium comprising Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric.

The dam is set to bolster Tanzania's energy sector, providing a much-needed boost to its economic development.
