Tanzanian President Commends Egypt’s Role in Julius Nyerere Dam Project

Dodoma: Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed gratitude to Egypt and its President, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, for their significant role in the construction of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Power Station.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the inauguration ceremony on August 22, 2026, President Hassan highlighted the contributions of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric in executing the project efficiently. The event also saw participation from Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, who attended the official unveiling and commissioning ceremony.

Prime Minister Madbouly was joined by a delegation including Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa el Menshawy, and Governor of Alexandria Ayman Atteya. Other notable attendees included Egyptian Ambassador to Tanzania Sherif Ismail, Chairman of Arab Contractors Ahmed el Assar, CEO of Elsewedy Electric Ahmed Elsewedy, and representatives from the Egyptian consortium involved in the project.

The Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Dam and Power Station stands as a significant example of development cooperation between Egypt and African nations. The project, implemented by Egyptian companies, aims to bolster Tanzania's energy sector and enhance its economic potential, underscoring the strategic partnership between Egypt and Tanzania.
