Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad received a report on the progress of the 4th phase of the presidential '100 Million Trees' initiative, which aims to improve air quality, expand green spaces, and support environmental sustainability nationwide.
According to State Information Service Egypt, around 788,000 trees have been planted during the fourth phase through the end of January 2026. Tree planting has covered roads and main squares as well as schools, youth centers, and health units across cities and villages.
The report also outlined ongoing efforts under the Ministry of Local Development's investment plan and governorate programs, with remaining governorates scheduled to complete planting during February.
Additionally, it added that coordination is ongoing with the Ministry of Higher Education, which planted around 222,600 trees across 25 universities, alongside support from the Ministry of Environment's nurseries to universities, local administrations, and civil society groups.
For her part, Awad stressed the need for continuous follow-up with the governorates, proper monitoring, and regular maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the planted trees.
She added that the initiative contributes to increasing per capita green space, improving air quality, and enhancing public health and overall quality of life through coordinated action among ministries and local authorities.
