New york: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty will receive The Elders Group, which includes a number of former international officials. The Elders Group was founded by the late leader Nelson Mandela to support peace around the world.
According to State Information Service Egypt, on July 29, Abdelatty met with a number of leaders and members of The Elders on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference on "The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution," held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The meeting addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, during which Minister Abdelatty provided a detailed presentation of Egypt's vision on ways to address the humanitarian catastrophe in the strip. He outlined Egypt's ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts and pressure on Israel to halt its blatant violations and its policies of starvation and siege, while ensuring the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
Minister Abdelatty also discussed Egypt's preparations to host an International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, in coordination with international partners, to be held immediately upon reaching a ceasefire agreement. He welcomed the group's upcoming visit to Arish and the Rafah crossing, scheduled in August.
Minister Abdelatty further emphasized the importance of building on the momentum generated by the conference and pushing forward efforts to implement the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
