Paris: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptians Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, participated in a panel discussion at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI) in Paris, alongside Ambassador Alaa Youssef of Egypt. The discussion focused on regional and international developments affecting global stability, highlighting Egypt’s strategic vision in response to evolving regional situations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s geopolitical stance, emphasizing the Palestinian cause’s centrality. He reiterated Egypt’s support for Palestinian rights, advocating for an independent state based on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, he stressed, is essential for achieving lasting peace in the region.
Minister Abdelatty detailed Egypt’s efforts to cease Israeli aggression on Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid entry amid a growing humanitarian crisis. He welcomed US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts and called for Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza. He condemned any annexation attempts of the West Bank or displacement of Palestinians, urging the international community to pressure Israel to allow unhindered aid delivery.
He reviewed outcomes from the March Arab Summit in Cairo, including forming a temporary Palestinian administrative committee for Gaza and Egypt’s commitment to training Palestinian security forces. He also addressed regional issues in Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, and Libya, emphasizing support for stability, sovereignty, and political processes in these countries.
On Iran’s nuclear issue, Minister Abdelatty noted Egypt’s role in facilitating a Cairo agreement between Iran and the IAEA to resume technical cooperation. He highlighted Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and resume negotiations.
Regarding water security, he underscored the importance of cooperation in line with international law to protect Nile Basin countries’ interests and opposed unilateral actions affecting the Eastern Nile Basin. He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to protect its water security per international law.
Minister Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s solidarity with Somalia, supporting security and stability efforts, including deploying Egyptian forces within the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia.
An interactive session concluded the panel, stressing comprehensive, sustainable crisis resolution approaches based on international law, peaceful solutions, and state sovereignty. Participants highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation for Middle East stability and multilateral efforts to address common challenges.
