Egypt’s FM Praises Hungary’s Support Within EU

New york: During a meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriate Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the outstanding development of its bilateral relations with Hungary. He noted that this progress reflects the shared political will of the two countries' leadership.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty praised the momentum of exchanged visits this year, including the one by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade P©ter Szijj¡rt³ to Cairo in February, and affirmed Egypt's keenness to continue strengthening these ties at all levels. He also commended Hungary's support for Egypt within the European Union, looking forward to its continued backing as part of their close strategic partnership.

The minister reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts to prevent waves of illegal migration from its coasts and the burdens it bears from hosting over nine million foreigners. Both ministers praised the positive developments in economic and industrial cooperation, including the fruitful partnership in manufacturing railway cars. He also expressed interest in deepening cooperation in telecommunications and digital transformation, leveraging Hungarian expertise in these fields.

He presented Egypt's vision for the crisis in Gaza, emphasizing the rejection of any ideas for displacement or liquidating the Palestinian cause. He stressed the importance of achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid access in quantities that meet the needs of the Palestinian people. He also highlighted the need to protect civilians and not to target civilian infrastructure.

He asserted the Palestinian people's right to remain on their land and establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He warned against the danger of continued Israeli military operations, the killing of unarmed civilians, and the policy of starvation in the Gaza Strip. He urged the European Union and its member states to continue pressuring Israel to respect its obligations under international humanitarian law as an occupying power, to achieve a permanent ceasefire, and to allow for the unobstructed entry of aid.
