Egypt’s PM Attends UN and Women’s Conference Anniversaries at UNGA

New york: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participated on September 22nd, 2025, in high-level meetings commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly led Egypt's delegation at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The first event, themed 'Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,' gathered world leaders and senior UN officials. Discussions focused on enhancing the UN's role in addressing contemporary challenges, upholding human rights, and achieving sustainable development.

The UN, established in 1945 following World War II, marks its 80th anniversary by reflecting on its mission to maintain peace, prevent conflict, promote development, protect human rights, and foster global cooperation.

On the occasion of the Women's Conference 30th anniversary, the theme was 'Recommitting to, resourcing and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.' Participants emphasized the need for continued international commitment to women's rights, connecting these efforts to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event reviewed progress since the historic 1995 Beijing Conference, highlighting achievements, best practices, persistent gaps, and ongoing challenges in advancing gender equality worldwide. It demonstrated the ongoing international commitment to promoting women's rights, aligning with the SDGs, particularly gender equality and women's empowerment.

In 1995, the Fourth World Conference on Women adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, committing to equality, development, and peace. The cabinet statement noted that Egypt, which helped draft the declaration, reaffirms its commitment to women's empowerment at national, regional, and international levels, especially amid current global challenges requiring collective action.
