Cairo: Egypt has firmly rejected accusations suggesting its involvement in the Gaza blockade, labeling them as part of a malicious propaganda campaign aimed at distorting the nation's commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement denouncing claims that the country contributed to the blockade by restricting humanitarian aid. The ministry asserted that such allegations are not in alignment with Egypt's stance or interests.
The statement emphasized Egypt's continuous efforts since the onset of the conflict, aimed at halting hostilities, facilitating aid through the Rafah crossing, and spearheading reconstruction efforts under a plan endorsed by Arab nations.
The ministry attributed these misleading accusations to certain hostile organizations intending to sow division among Arab public opinion and divert attention from the actual humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
"The foreign ministry confirmed that Rafah has remained open from the Egyptian side. Israeli forces control the Palestinian side and block access," the statement highlighted.
Furthermore, the ministry urged caution against the dissemination of falsehoods intended to exploit Palestinian suffering and incite internal division. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Gaza's population by advocating for a ceasefire, delivering humanitarian aid, and initiating the reconstruction process.
In addition, the ministry reiterated Egypt's ongoing efforts to reunify Gaza and the West Bank, and to work towards a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
