Alamein: Egypt dispatched its 17th humanitarian aid convoy to Gaza in the early hours of Monday, August 18, 2025, as part of its continued efforts to counter the Israeli-induced famine in the strip. Dozens of trucks, carrying staple food supplies, infant nutrition, and medical aid, lined up on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border, preparing to enter Gaza via the Karm Abu Salem crossing.
According to State Information Service Egypt, since July 27, Egypt has sent 16 aid convoys to Gaza to stem the unfolding famine caused by the five-month complete Israeli blockade on the strip. Amal Imam, the Egyptian Red Crescent's executive director, highlighted that Egypt has sent 36,000 trucks with more than 500,000 tons of aid since the war began in October 2023. Of this, 70 percent comprises humanitarian supplies, while the remaining 30 percent consists of relief and medical goods.
However, officials have reported that Israel's deliberate obstructions and prolonged inspection process have caused thousands of trucks to remain stranded on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border, waiting for Israeli clearance. The Israeli blockade on the strip has led to severe humanitarian consequences, with at least 200 Palestinians, including tens of children, starving to death.
Israel's ongoing conflict in Gaza, now in its 22nd month, has resulted in the deaths of nearly 62,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and has injured over 153,000 others.
