Tourism Minister Evaluates Giza Necropolis Service Development Project

Cairo: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy has taken an active role in assessing the progress of the pilot operation of a service development project at the Giza Pyramid Complex. On Friday, 9th of May, 2025, he conducted a follow-up on the advancements made since the project's initiation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the project, spearheaded by Orascom Pyramids Entertainment (OPE), a branch of Orascom Investment Holding (OIH), commenced on April 8. An extensive meeting took place at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), where Fathy engaged with Mohamed Khaled, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), along with senior officials from OPE and relevant state bodies. The discussion centered on enhancing the pilot operation program to improve visitor experiences while respecting the site's archaeological significance.

The meeting also addressed the insights gained and the obstacles encountered since the pilot program's inception. Participants suggested practical solutions to tackle these challenges, aiming to fulfill the project's objectives successfully.

Fathy underscored the necessity of maintaining seamless coordination among OPE, the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (ETTA), the Egyptian General Tourist Guides Syndicate (EGTGS), and the Supreme Council of Antiquities. He stressed the importance of regular meetings to ensure the effective implementation of the proposals agreed upon.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the collaborative efforts of all involved bodies to adhere to the pre-established plans for a successful pilot operation. Inspectors from the ministry have been closely monitoring the pilot operation in the Giza Necropolis, focusing on archaeological sites and bus stops to facilitate smooth transportation and regulate visitor movement through designated entry and exit points.
