PM Heads to Tanzania for Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam Opening

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly departed Cairo International Airport on Friday, August 21, 2026, for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at the head of a high-level delegation to attend, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the opening ceremony of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam.

According to State Information Service Egypt, an Egyptian consortium comprising Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric implemented the landmark project. The official delegation accompanying the Prime Minister includes Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa El-Minshawi, Alexandria Governor Ayman Attia, a former deputy head of the consortium, Arab Contractors Chairman Ahmed El-Assar, and Elsewedy Electric CEO and Managing Director Ahmed Elsewedy, along with officials and representatives of the Egyptian consortium responsible for the project.

Madbouly stated that his participation in the opening ceremony, on behalf of President Sisi and in the presence of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, highlights Egypt's commitment to strengthening African-African cooperation and forming successful strategic partnerships with countries across the continent. He emphasized that these partnerships aim to promote sustainable development through joint execution of development projects across various sectors, contributing to progress and prosperity for the African nations.
