Qantara west: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli attended the inauguration ceremony of several new development and industrial projects in the Qantara West Zone, an affiliate of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ceremony included a short film titled "Qantara West Zone: A Regional Hub for Textile and Food Industries," which highlighted the capabilities of the Abo Khalifa Industrial Zone. The zone is strategically located, connecting the Mediterranean and Red Sea ports, making it an attractive site for labor-intensive industries. The film showcased progress made in equipping the zone to attract investment, noting that the first phase, covering 4 square kilometers, was completed in July 2024. This phase included soil improvement, construction of internal road networks, and the establishment of utility facilities such as water treatment, electricity, and sewage systems.
Key infrastructure developments in the zone include 981,000 square meters of industrial project space, a 20 MW transformer, an under-construction 500 MW substation, and a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 60,000 m³/day. Sewage pumping stations with capacities of 23,000 m³/day and 37,000 m³/day are also under construction. Additional facilities include a natural gas pressure reduction station with a capacity of 40,000 m³/hour, with another planned at 160,000 m³/hour. Water intake and purification plants, each with a capacity of 35,000 m³/day, are undergoing expansions.
The documentary also highlighted investment activity in the Abu Khalifa zone, which currently hosts investments from seven countries, including Egypt, China, Turkey, Germany, Greece, Pakistan, and Thailand. Total investments amount to approximately USD 1.055 billion, supporting 40 projects in sectors such as textiles, garments, luggage manufacturing, logistics centers, poultry equipment, packaging, and food industries. These projects cover about 2.47 million square meters and are expected to generate around 55,600 job opportunities.
