Planning Minister Meets Scatec Delegation to Enhance Renewable Energy Cooperation

Cairo: Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania A. Al-Mashat received the board members of Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec, led by CEO Terje Pilskog, to discuss avenues of joint cooperation. The meeting took place during the delegation's visit to Egypt, which began with an official meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.According to State Information Service Egypt, Al-Mashat emphasized the economic and historical relations between Egypt and Norway, which have resulted in mutually beneficial projects. She highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Egypt and Scatec in advancing the energy transition and facilitating green growth.Al-Mashat stressed that new partnerships with Scatec further bolster the collaboration between the public sector, private sector, and development partners to expedite Egypt's green transition. She noted Scatec's contribution to major projects, including the Benban Solar Park and Egypt's first green hydrogen plant in the Suez C anal Economic Zone, implemented with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and other partners.The Minister highlighted the signed partnership framework agreement that integrates Scatec's renewable energy projects, with a total investment portfolio of $3.6 billion, into the energy pillar of Egypt's NWFE program. Al-Mashat also emphasized the Ministry's efforts to mobilize development financing for Scatec's projects through coordination with international development partners, culminating in the launch of the 'Obelisk' Solar Energy Project.She outlined Scatec's portfolio under the NWFE program's energy pillar, valued at $3.6 billion, including projects such as the 'Obelisk' Solar Power Plant, Egypt Aluminum Company Solar Power Plant, Egypt Green Hydrogen Project, Chadan Wind Farm Project, and the Green Ammonia Project in Damietta.Al-Mashat discussed the launch of the Second Progress Report for the NWFE Program, noting that the ministry's relationship with Scatec aligns with the Presi dent's directives for a fast-track mechanism for NWFE projects. Scatec's renewable energy ventures represent successful projects under the energy pillar of NWFE, leveraging $1.7 billion in low-cost development financing from partners and benefiting from guarantees by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and the EU investment guarantee mechanism.
