Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, conducted a phone call with the United Kingdom's National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, to discuss bilateral relations and exchange views on regional issues of mutual concern.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussion focused on elevating the bilateral relations between Egypt and the UK to a strategic partnership, aiming to deepen cooperation across various fields. Both officials exchanged views on the grave developments in the Gaza Strip, with Minister Abdelatty condemning Israel's violations of international humanitarian law, including targeting journalists and workers in medical and humanitarian fields, as well as the incursion into Ramallah. He emphasized the urgent need for the international community to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to halt the Israeli actions contributing to it.
Minister Abdelatty expressed support for the recognition of the State of Palestine by several Western states, including the UK, on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. He highlighted that recognizing an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 lines is pivotal for achieving lasting security and stability in the region.
Furthermore, Minister Abdelatty raised concerns about the arrest of Egyptian citizen Ahmed Abdel Qader in London and requested urgent clarification on the circumstances surrounding the arrest. He instructed the Egyptian Embassy in London to engage with British authorities to ensure the citizen's rights are upheld and to secure his prompt release.
