Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty stated that strong historical ties and ongoing coordination between Egypt and South Africa are boosting bilateral relations and fostering joint cooperation, which both countries value.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this came during a phone call on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, between Abdelatty and South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola. The discussion focused on ways of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields and addressing regional and international issues of common concern, particularly in light of South Africa's presidency of the G20.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt's readiness to cooperate with South Africa in implementing development projects in various sectors, leveraging the extensive expertise of Egyptian companies. On the issue of water security, Abdelatty emphasized the need for adherence to international law regarding shared water resources, advocating for mutual benefit and the rejection of unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin.
The conversation also covered major political and security developments at both regional and international levels, with particular attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip. The ministers discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid. Developments in Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and the Horn of Africa region were also reviewed.
The two ministers agreed to intensify efforts and joint work at both bilateral and multilateral levels, especially within the African Union and the G20, to enhance regional integration and achieve shared interests. The South African minister commended Egypt's efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and across the African continent.
