Cairo: Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is seeking to deepen cooperation with Hungary in manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, and water management, its chairman said on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, following talks with Hungarian officials in Sokhna.
According to State Information Service Egypt, SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien met with Hungarian Ambassador Rita Herencs¡r and Economic Counsellor Patrik Maruzs to discuss opportunities in sectors such as automotive, data centers, railway feeder industries, and electricity. He highlighted the zone's infrastructure, which includes six seaports, four industrial zones, and investment incentives aimed at attracting European companies.
Gamal El-Dien emphasized the value of the partnership with Hungary, particularly in sectors that can add value to the Egyptian economy. He expressed SCZONE's interest in localizing the automotive industry and expanding data center projects, while also exploring opportunities for cooperation in feeder industries for the railway and electricity sectors. He added that SCZONE looks forward to benefiting from the technological expertise of Central and Eastern European countries and showcasing the diverse investments the zone hosts from various countries.
Ambassador Herencs¡r conveyed Hungary's interest in arranging meetings between SCZONE and Hungarian companies to explore joint projects, including public-private partnerships, and to expand exports. During the visit, the delegation toured several SCZONE projects, including Ecopat Industrial Development, El Sewedy National Company, and National Steel Fabrication Company. She reiterated Hungary's keenness to explore cooperation in manufacturing, exports, infrastructure investment, solar power, and water management.
Earlier, in February 2023, Gamal El-Dien led a promotional mission to Hungary, where he met with government and company representatives during the 4th Egyptian-Hungarian Joint Committee in Budapest.
