EGAS Collaborates with Energy Giants to Accelerate Offshore Gas Development

Cairo: The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) is making significant strides in advancing the development of undeveloped offshore gas discoveries by forming technical partnerships and expanding exploration activities with leading global energy companies, including Arcius Energy, ADNOC's XRG, and ExxonMobil.According to State Information Service Egypt, EGAS recently facilitated a technical workshop with Arcius Energy, a regional gas platform co-owned by bp (51%) and ADNOC's XRG (49%). The workshop's primary focus was on evaluating development strategies for untapped gas discoveries in the Mediterranean, with the objective of integrating these reserves with existing subsea infrastructure. This initiative is expected to expedite the timeline to first gas production and optimize the utilization of Egypt's current infrastructure. In its commitment to Egypt's energy sector, Arcius Energy has pledged an investment of $3.7 billion over the next five years. This commitment was solidified in August with an a greement to invest approximately $109 million in the North Damietta offshore area of the Mediterranean Sea.In a separate engagement, EGAS conducted discussions with US-based ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy regarding exploration activities within their respective concession areas, namely the Cairo and Masry blocks. These discussions included an evaluation of seismic surveys and geological studies, alongside planning future exploration initiatives. ExxonMobil, which was awarded these blocks in January 2023, leads the operations with a 60% stake, while QatarEnergy holds a 40% stake. Both blocks, located offshore in the Nile Delta region, are currently in the pre-discovery exploration phase with drilling anticipated to commence this year. The meeting underscored the importance of utilizing advanced seismic processing and interpretation technologies to inform future drilling decisions. This forms part of a broader ongoing effort to ensure seamless coordination and data integration between EGAS and its international partners.EGAS has reiterated its dedication to offering comprehensive technical support and maintaining close cooperation with its international partners to optimize Egypt's gas resources and attract further investment into the sector. Notably, in November, ExxonMobil signed a Letter of Intent with EGAS to expand natural gas exploration activities in the Mediterranean Sea, indicating plans to invest in a new concession area located west of the Zohr field, adjacent to Cypriot waters.Source: State Information Service Egypt
