Cairo: The Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) CEO Mai Farid announced that the authority has disbursed approximately EGP 15.585 billion to healthcare providers through December 2024. This financial commitment underscores the UHIA's ongoing efforts to support health service providers across the country.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Farid also highlighted that the UHIA's total revenues have reached EGP 173 billion, resulting in a cumulative surplus of EGP 139.7 billion since the project's launch in 2018 up to December 2024. The announcement was made during a session organized by the Institute of National Planning, which focused on the challenges of implementing the Universal Health Insurance System.
The session, attended by health experts and officials, featured a summary by Farid of the system's accomplishments over the past year. Since its inception in 2018, the Universal Health Insurance System has been implemented in five governorates-Port Said, Ismailia, Luxor, South Sinai, and Suez. As of now, around 3.8 million people have registered under the system, achieving a registration rate of 81 percent.
