Suez: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi announced that upgrading the Nasr Petroleum Company and Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Company in the Suez governorate is a top priority for the ministry. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the efficiency of refineries, increase operating capacities, and maximize the value extracted from each barrel of crude oil.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the announcement was made during the general assemblies of the two companies, held via videoconference. The meeting included high-profile attendees such as Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, and Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem. Senior officials from the ministry, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and representatives from the Central Auditing Organization and the General Trade Union of Petroleum Workers also participated.
Minister Badawi emphasized plans to increase crude oil supplies to the two companies to support production rates and optimize the use of available capacities. He highlighted the importance of completing the coking complex project at Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Company to convert low-value products into higher-value ones, thereby increasing production and reducing imports. He also urged the companies to adhere strictly to safety standards and improve emergency preparedness.
Rashad Nazim, Chairman of Nasr Petroleum Company, reported that the company refined 1.5 million tons of crude in the fiscal year 2025/2026, achieving its target and enhancing the efficiency of its processing units. Gasoline production increased significantly from 151,000 tons to 637,000 tons, and diesel production rose from 234,000 tons to 329,000 tons compared to the previous year. The company is also upgrading its seawater desalination unit, asphalt handling facilities, and safety systems.
Mohamed Shehata el Baz, Chairman of Suez Petroleum Manufacturing Company, stated that the company refined nearly 1.4 million tons of crude, supplying various petroleum products, including marine bunker fuel. The company also provided feedstock for AMOC and Alexandria Specialty Petroleum, maximizing the added value of petroleum products. The last fiscal quarter saw a notable increase in refined crude quantities, surpassing targets. Energy-efficiency projects generated savings of over $275,000.
The company's laboratories played a crucial role in verifying the quality of crude oil and petroleum products, representing over 7% of the sector's activity in this area.
