Cairo: The Egyptian capital is set to host the 12th All Africa University Games (Cairo 2026) from September 8 to 16, welcoming 81 universities from 17 African nations. This event aims to foster friendship, cooperation, and exchange among university students across the continent through sports and cultural activities.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Cairo 2026 will feature 18 main sports, four para-sports, and three recreational games. Notably, 18 athletes with disabilities from 10 universities will participate in the para-sport competitions. The para-sports will include athletics, badminton, swimming, and table tennis, as informed by Adel Abdel Ghafar, media adviser and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdel Aziz Konsowa emphasized the significance of including students with disabilities, highlighting the organizers' commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive university sports. He stated that the inclusion of para-sports would not only showcase the talents of students with disabilities but also enhance their confidence and support their integration into university life.

Ahmed Kamel Mehdi, head of the Games' organizing committee, affirmed the commitment to inclusivity, noting that the para-sports are a testament to making Cairo 2026 accessible to all students. He mentioned that the committee is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure suitable facilities and conditions for the athletes.

The organizing committee is currently reviewing technical arrangements and finalizing documentation for the participating delegations and athletes. They are preparing to announce the final participant lists and official competition schedules soon.

The Games are anticipated to be a platform for both sporting competition and cultural exchange, uniting African university students under the values of friendship, cooperation, mutual respect, and inclusion.
