Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar underscored the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to address and de-escalate regional tensions during a phone call on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The dialogue highlighted the need for political solutions to ongoing conflicts.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two foreign ministers explored avenues to strengthen bilateral relations while reviewing regional and international developments that are of mutual concern. Abdelatty acknowledged the progress made in Egyptian-Indian relations over recent years and reiterated Egypt's commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership initiated in 2023, aiming to benefit both nations.

Abdelatty welcomed the results from the inaugural round of strategic dialogue between the two countries' foreign ministers, which took place in New Delhi in October 2025. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the dialogue's outcomes and sustaining the positive momentum through more frequent high-level visits and regular consultations.

Moreover, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's eagerness to broaden cooperation with India, particularly in the sectors of economy, trade, and investment, with the objective of boosting bilateral trade to $12 billion in the next five years.

The ministers also exchanged insights on regional developments and the prospective landscape of regional security arrangements amid shifting conditions. Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of avoiding military escalation, focusing on diplomatic resolutions, and ensuring the freedom of navigation.
