Ankara: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need for an international stabilization force to be deployed in the Gaza Strip. This force would monitor the ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and create conditions for reconstruction, aiming towards a political process that would establish an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed these views during an interview with journalist Sina Alkan on Turkey's Habertrk channel amid his official visit to Ankara. He detailed Egypt's ongoing efforts to maintain a ceasefire in Gaza, underscoring the significance of direct US involvement in past negotiations. Abdelatty advocated for the advancement of all phases of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Plan, which includes forming a temporary Palestinian committee to oversee Gaza, ultimately transitioning responsibilities to the Palestinian Authority. He also mentioned Cairo's role in promoting Palestinian reconciliation through hosting factional talks aimed at preserving territorial unity.
Addressing the situation in Sudan, Abdelatty highlighted the severe risks posed by the escalating crisis, particularly the humanitarian disaster in El-Fasher. He called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized the necessity for all Sudanese parties to engage in a genuine, inclusive political process that is free from foreign interference to maintain state unity and institutional integrity.
On Libya, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's focus on restoring stability by unifying executive institutions, withdrawing foreign forces, and enabling Libya to reclaim sovereignty. He stressed the importance of holding concurrent presidential and parliamentary elections to unify Libyan governance and resolve longstanding divisions, in alignment with a UN-led political initiative.
Abdelatty concluded by noting the progress in Egyptian-Turkish relations, citing a shared political commitment to expand bilateral cooperation and enhance mutual consultation and coordination for regional stability.
