Cairo: Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad Haddad el Gohary met with families of Egyptians missing in Benghazi and other Libyan provinces to update them on the latest developments regarding the sinking of the illegal migration boat off Tobruk in July.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Gohary reviewed the ministry's continued efforts, in coordination with Libyan authorities in Benghazi, to match DNA samples of unidentified bodies to determine their identities and arrange for their repatriation. He also addressed the procedures currently underway to deport Egyptian citizens expected to be released from detention facilities in Tripoli and western Libya.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its appeal to Egyptian families not to fall victim to human smuggling networks, stressing the importance of protecting citizens' lives and respecting the legal rules for entering neighboring countries. The ministry further urged families of missing persons to take the necessary legal and judicial measures against smugglers and those responsible for trafficking networks, to help eradicate this phenomenon.
