Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Chadian counterpart Abdoulaye Saber Fadoul to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Chad, particularly in infrastructure projects. During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the fourth session of the Egypt-Chad Joint Committee, Abdelatty praised the close relations between the two countries, expressing hope that the Joint Committee would produce new agreements to strengthen institutional cooperation and deepen the partnership between the two countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Minister welcomed the progress of Egyptian-backed infrastructure projects in Chad, particularly the Egypt-Libya-Chad Road, in addition to road construction, maintenance, and road recycling projects. He also stressed the importance of the Egyptian-Chadian Business Forum, held alongside the Joint Committee meetings, saying it would help expand trade and investment opportunities. Abdelatty also reviewed preparations for the Alamein Africa Forum, scheduled for October 4 on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit.
The Minister said Egypt is seeking to increase bilateral trade, particularly in the fields of energy, construction, and logistics, while encouraging greater participation by Egyptian companies and the private sector in Chad's development plans. Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt's development cooperation with Chad, including an Egyptian medical mission that carried out more than 500 surgeries in N'Djamena last April and the opening of a kidney dialysis center at the city's central hospital. He also called for the completion of the new Alexandria University campus in N'Djamena at the earliest opportunity.
The two ministers also discussed Egypt's training and capacity-building programs through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding, covering border management, counterterrorism, security training, and military cooperation. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in the Sahel and Sudan.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, rejecting the establishment of parallel entities and stressing the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty, avoiding interference in its internal affairs, and supporting a Sudanese-led political process.
