Egypt Sends Overland Aid Convoy to Sudan Amid Ongoing Conflict

Cairo: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has launched a critical humanitarian aid convoy to Sudan, marking a significant step in Egypt's ongoing support for its neighboring country. The convoy, initiated on Sunday, December 28, 2025, is set to deliver approximately 70 tonnes of food, medical supplies, and other essential relief items to the Sudanese people.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy will cover a distance of nearly 2,000 kilometers to reach its destination in Sudan. It will be escorted by a delegation of Red Crescent volunteers, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of aid. The supplies, which include food parcels, medical equipment, and shelter materials such as mattresses, blankets, and winter coverings, were selected in coordination with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society to address priority needs.

Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the ERC, Maya Morsy, emphasized that this initiative represents the first land-based humanitarian shipment to Sudan. She highlighted it as a message of solidarity from Egypt to the Sudanese people during a critical phase of their crisis. The Egyptian response to the situation has been in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, aiming to maintain consistent support for Sudan throughout the conflict.

Morsy pointed out that Egypt's humanitarian efforts have been ongoing for nearly 990 days, making it the longest-running response since the conflict began. She also assured that this convoy would not be the last, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to continue providing assistance until the crisis is resolved.
