Cairo: Egyptians participated in runoff elections on Sunday, December 18, 2025, for 19 parliamentary constituencies after previous results were annulled in November during the initial phase of the 2025 House of Representatives elections.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the rerun features 70 candidates vying for 35 seats distributed across the governorates of Giza, Fayoum, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Alexandria, and Beheira. The National Elections Authority (NEA) nullified the original results on 18 November, citing significant violations that compromised the election's integrity. These violations included electioneering outside polling stations, the absence of official vote count copies for candidates or their representatives, and inconsistencies between sub-polling station results and those submitted to central committees.
The NEA stated that these violations represented critical issues in the voting and counting process, leading to the decision to cancel results in the affected constituencies. Voting in the rerun occurred abroad on 24 and 25 December, with domestic polling taking place on Sunday and Monday. The first round of the rerun elections had been conducted overseas on 1 and 2 December, followed by voting inside Egypt on 3 and 4 December.
Final results of the rerun elections are expected to be announced on 4 January. Egypt's current House of Representatives was elected in late 2020 for a five-year term concluding in January 2026, with constitutional requirements mandating that elections for a new parliament be held within 60 days of the chamber's term expiration.
