Egypt: Egypt has exported 150,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Idku liquefaction plant, bound for Canada via French TotalEnergies' LNG Endeavour vessel. This marks the first shipment of 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this move underscores Egypt's strategy to enhance its position as a regional hub for gas trading. It also aims to attract more investments from foreign partners to boost domestic gas production.
Egypt is simultaneously expanding its regional influence with integrated energy networks. In January 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Syrian Ministry of Energy to supply natural gas for electricity generation and additional petroleum products.
This development follows a December 2025 agreement with the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water to supply natural gas to the Deir Ammar Power Plant. These agreements capitalize on Egypt's infrastructure, including the Arab Gas Pipeline and regasification units, to stabilize the regional energy landscape.
In 2025, Egypt exported over five LNG cargoes to European and Asian markets, with shipments to Greece, Trkiye, and Italy, each carrying between 150,000 and 155,000 cubic meters.
