Cairo: Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), recently hosted Dr. Miguel Seco, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Germany in Cairo, and Ms. Maren Diale, Chief Executive Officer of the Arab-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This meeting was a key step in preparing for the seventh session of the Joint Economic Committee between Egypt and Germany.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on economic and trade relations between the two nations. Dr. El-Sherif emphasized the strategic importance of Egypt's cooperation with Germany, which is considered both a global economic power and a reliable technological partner for Egypt. He highlighted the crucial role Germany plays as a key trade and investment partner, and expressed Egypt's interest in bolstering bilateral trade and attracting more German investments.
Dr. El-Sherif shared that the trade exchange between Egypt and Germany amounted to approximately 5.5 billion pounds in 2024. Additionally, German investments in Egypt were valued at around 3 billion pounds by the end of February 2025, with about 1,738 German companies operating in Egypt. These figures underscore the substantial economic ties between the two countries.
The meeting was part of ongoing arrangements for the upcoming Joint Economic Committee session. Discussions included technical and economic files for the Committee's agenda, with Dr. El-Sherif noting the Committee's role as a vital mechanism for enhancing economic and trade cooperation.
Plans for the Egyptian-German Business Forum were also reviewed during the meeting. This forum will be held alongside the Committee's meetings, aiming to mobilize participation from major companies in both countries. The forum is expected to serve as an effective platform for strengthening trade and investment partnerships between Egyptian and German business communities.
The German Commercial Counsellor conveyed his country's strong interest in the success of the upcoming Joint Economic Committee session, reflecting the robust bilateral relations and cooperation between Egypt and Germany.
