London: The Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) Office in London, led by Commercial Plenipotentiary Minister Wael Abdel Rehim, organized a round table in collaboration with the Scottish Africa Business Association, the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, and Scottish Development International. The event, hosted by the National Bank of Egypt in London, aimed to engage Scottish companies interested in the green hydrogen and ammonia sectors.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the round table featured key firms such as Cairn Risk Consulting, FLEXERGY, Hydrogen Scotland, Logan Energy, Mott MacDonald, Nomad, Penspen, Pier Solutions, and Scotmas. Discussions were centered on the legislative framework, investment incentives, and Egypt's potential to serve as a regional hub for green hydrogen production.
Commercial Plenipotentiary Minister Wael Abdel Rehim kicked off the session by highlighting the strong economic ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom, noting the UK's position as Egypt's second-largest investment partner, with investments surpassing £20 billion. Eng. Ahmed Mahrous from the Ministry of Electricity and Dr. Mohamed Abueldahab from the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone presented on existing projects and hydrogen clusters within the Economic Zone.
The ECS Office held subsequent bilateral meetings, with Commercial Attach© Rosanne Ibrahim engaging with several companies interested in collaborating with Egyptian firms on water desalination, hydrogen, and renewable energy. These companies were invited to attend the upcoming Investment Conference in Cairo, coinciding with the British Prime Minister's visit.
Dr. Abdel Aziz El Sherif, Commercial Plenipotentiary Minister and First Undersecretary and Head of ECS, emphasized that Egypt has the essential components to become a regional hub for the green hydrogen sector. He noted the participation of numerous English and Scottish companies in the round table as indicative of the increasing interest in the opportunities available.
