Cairo: The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has initiated a comprehensive campaign to vaccinate livestock against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Rift Valley Fever (RVF) throughout all governorates. This effort is designed to safeguard livestock, curb the spread of epidemic diseases, particularly during the winter months, and strengthen food security.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the campaign targets livestock in villages and remote areas, placing special emphasis on the new SAT 1 strain. For the first time, a quadrivalent vaccine, which covers all FMD strains, is being utilized to enhance immunity and the effectiveness of vaccinations. Veterinary awareness convoys are accompanying the vaccination teams to educate breeders about the importance of regular vaccinations, biosecurity measures, and the risks associated with diseases. Authorities have confirmed the availability of adequate high-quality vaccines and reported that the current FMD situation remains stable.
The Ministry highlighted the necessity of controlling FMD, an endemic transboundary disease, through regular vaccination programs that include three annual campaigns and additional exceptional ones. Farmers are urged to cooperate with veterinary teams to ensure comprehensive protection for livestock and to achieve herd immunity.
