Port said: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie announced the success of the Authority's maritime rescue efforts in saving all crew members of the cargo vessel 'FENER' in the early hours of Wednesday, morning, January 14, 2026.According to State Information Service Egypt, efforts came in response to an immediate distress call from the ship's captain requesting rescue operations after the vessel developed a 10-degree list to starboard and was heading toward sinking, while it was located outside the Canal's navigational channel in the western anchorage area north of Port Said, about five miles west of the northern entrance of the Suez Canal in the Mediterranean Sea.In a press statement, Rabie said that as soon as the Port Said Harbor Movements Office and the main Navigation Control Center received the distress call at 11:30 pm Tuesday, two tugboats were prepared and three 'Bahar'-class marine launches were dispatched to evacuate all 12 crew members and secure the vessel during the rescue o peration.The Authority Chairman reassured the public regarding the crew's health condition, confirming that all crew members are in good health. He added that the necessary medical care was provided to one crew member who suffered a shoulder dislocation, at the Authority's Canal Hospital for Mooring and Navigational Aids.Rabie praised the efforts of the SCA's personnel from the various departments and divisions for their immediate and rapid response to the emergency. The Movements Department promptly deployed the required marine units to evacuate the crew, while the Services Department provided ambulance services by dispatching fully equipped ambulances, handling the injured case, ensuring the crew member received treatment at one of the Authority's hospitals and was subsequently discharged. In addition, the Security and Public Relations departments coordinated with the relevant authorities, provided logistical services, and transported the crew - at their request - to stay at a hotel.The Chairman noted that the Authority's Crisis Management Committee is monitoring developments around the clock and has raised its level of preparedness to take the necessary measures to deal with the vessel. He explained that the SCA has introduced a range of new navigational and logistical services to meet customers' needs in both normal and emergency circumstances, most notably maritime ambulance services.
