El alamein: The seventh session of the Joint Higher Committee between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt convened today in El Alamein. The meeting was chaired by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani for Qatar, and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty for Egypt.
According to African Press Organization, the session focused on reviewing and enhancing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in areas such as economy, investment, diplomacy, health, agriculture, and food security. Both sides highlighted the significant progress in Qatari-Egyptian relations, underscored by the increased frequency of high-level visits, which demonstrates a mutual desire to elevate bilateral relations.
The committee also addressed regional developments and diplomatic efforts to promote security and stability. Discussions included the situation in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories, with both countries rejecting any attempts to alter the demographic or geographic makeup of these regions. The importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring maritime security was also emphasized.
Further, the session tackled the Sudanese crisis, urging the international community to support Sudan and its neighboring countries. Emphasis was placed on preserving Sudan's unity and territorial integrity and supporting its state institutions.
Agreements signed during the session included a draft agreement on customs law cooperation, memoranda of understanding between the State Audit Bureau of Qatar and the Central Auditing Organization of Egypt, and a grant agreement for the establishment of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Hospital in Sohag Governorate.
