Phone Call Between Egyptian and UK Foreign Ministers Focuses on Bilateral Relations and Regional Stability

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone talk with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Yvette Cooper to discuss boosting bilateral relations and addressing the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and Sudan.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf reported that the discussions were centered around advancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in the energy and transport sectors.

The conversation also touched upon the Palestinian issue, where Abdelatty emphasized the importance of coordinated international efforts to implement the latest UN Security Council resolution. This implementation is deemed essential to support the ceasefire in accordance with the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement and to contribute to restoring security and stability in the region.

Abdelatty highlighted the necessity for the swift deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza as per the Security Council resolution and within the framework of peacekeeping operations. He stressed the urgency of unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to alleviate the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The Foreign Minister reiterated the unity of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, rejecting any division attempts. He also expressed hope for the UK's involvement as a partner in the upcoming International Conference on Reconstruction and Early Recovery in Gaza, which Egypt will host.

The situation in Sudan was another focal point of the call, with both ministers exchanging views on recent developments. Abdelatty outlined Egypt's role within the Quad Mechanism to support de-escalation and achieve a ceasefire, emphasizing the need for coordinated regional and international actions to foster an inclusive political process that maintains Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and stability.

He further stressed the importance of supporting the Sudanese people, assisting national institutions, and working towards a comprehensive humanitarian truce alongside the delivery of humanitarian aid. Cooper acknowledged Egypt's significant role in the Quad Mechanism and highlighted the necessity for ongoing consultations to mitigate escalation and secure a humanitarian truce in Sudan.
