Cairo: The state is stepping up preparations to launch a 'Productive Village' initiative that aims at building on the achievements of the presidential 'Decent Life' program for creating sustainable jobs and promoting industrial and economic activity in rural areas, Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad said Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Awad directed officials from the ministry's Decent Life central unit to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry on field inspections of proposed project sites to assess their technical suitability and coordinate implementation with local authorities.
A joint delegation from the two ministries visited villages in Gharbia and Qalyubia governorates to assess proposed locations, supply chains, and supporting industries.
The Minister said that the initiative seeks to capitalize on upgraded rural infrastructure by supporting industries based on local competitive advantages, particularly food processing and textiles, while making use of state-owned facilities and land.
Awad added that the program aims to strengthen industrial value chains, create sustainable employment, curb unplanned rural migration, and contribute to Egypt's goal of increasing exports to $100 billion.
