Egypt, China Collaborate on Grid Modernization and Renewable Energy Integration

Cairo: Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat engaged in discussions with a delegation from China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI) to explore strategies for modernizing Egypt's national electricity grid and enhancing its capacity to integrate increasing renewable energy supplies.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions centered on energy planning, grid studies, smart distribution systems, energy storage technologies, and advanced control centers. These initiatives aim to improve grid stability and support Egypt's transition to clean energy. Minister Esmat reviewed proposals focused on enhancing grid resilience in response to rising electricity demand and increasing renewable generation.

The meeting also addressed potential technical cooperation between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and CSGI. This cooperation would focus on grid planning, digital solutions, and long-term strategies for expanding transmission capacity. Esmat emphasized that Egypt is committed to ensuring the national grid can accommodate a target of 45% renewable and clean energy in the country's electricity mix within the next two years. He highlighted the crucial role of battery storage systems in maintaining reliable power supplies.

Esmat further noted that the government is actively advancing solar and wind energy projects according to a defined timetable. Egypt will continue collaborating with international partners, particularly China, to expedite the transition from conventional to smart electricity grids.
