Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty highlighted the significant momentum in relations between Egypt and the European Union, expressing desire to continue working with Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to bolster cooperation.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty stated that cooperation would be pursued within the framework of implementing the six pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership and the outcomes of the Egypt-EU summit held in Brussels on October 22. He described this summit as a roadmap for the next two years leading up to the next summit in 2027. The top diplomat made these remarks during his meeting with the EU official.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf mentioned that Abdelatty welcomed continued consultation and coordination with the EU on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of shared concern. Abdelatty stressed the importance of activating the Egypt-EU investment platform launched in June 2025 by expanding sectors benefiting from the platform to include those affecting citizens' daily lives, notably small and medium-sized productive projects in industry and agriculture sectors. He emphasized the need to remove obstacles facing Egyptian exports to European markets.
The foreign minister expressed Egypt's intent to maintain coordination with the EU in areas such as legal migration and skilled labor training. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of holding an Egypt-EU security and defense dialogue, enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation, and securing EU support for Egypt to serve as a regional hub for humanitarian assistance to crisis zones.
The meeting also included discussions on the Action Plan for the Mediterranean Pact. Abdelatty outlined Egypt's vision and proposed projects and initiatives, expressing interest in hosting the secretariat of the Euro-Mediterranean University. Regional issues, particularly the situation in Gaza, were also discussed, with Abdelatty urging EU engagement to ensure the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan. He called for the unimpeded entry of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid, especially amid harsh winter conditions.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of forming a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage daily affairs, advocating for the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and taking necessary steps toward early recovery and reconstruction. Additionally, he briefed the EU official on Egypt's efforts to train Palestinian police personnel and welcomed a European proposal to support these efforts. He reiterated Egypt's stance on the unity of Palestinian territories between the West Bank and Gaza, rejecting any measures that could divide Gaza or undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
