Cairo: Egypt's National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced on Sunday, August 9, 2026, that the country has exported a total of 160,000 tons of food products. These exports were dispatched in 3,900 consignments by 1,333 exporting companies and included approximately 683 types of food products.According to State Information Service Egypt, the NFSA's 29th weekly report for 2026, covering the period from August 1 to August 7, detailed the types of products exported. The exports comprised vegetables and tubers, fruits, preserved vegetable and fruit preparations, flour, grain products, and several other food items. Among vegetables, 44 varieties were exported, amounting to 46,000 tons, with potatoes leading at 17,000 tons, followed by onions at 11,000 tons and beans at 5,000 tons.The report further highlighted that Egypt exported 33 types of fruit totaling 31,000 tons. Strawberries were the top fruit export at 11,000 tons, followed by citrus fruits and mangoes, each at 6,000 tons. Sudan emerged as the large st importer of Egyptian food products during this period, followed by the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the US, and Jordan. In total, 184 countries imported Egyptian food products.Alexandria Port handled the highest number of food export consignments, with a total of 688, followed by Damietta Port with 582 and Safaga Port with 510. In an effort to bolster food exports, the NFSA issued 1,110 health certificates to ensure that the products met safety standards, thus enhancing international market confidence in Egyptian exports.The report also mentioned that food imports into Egypt totaled 1,695 consignments, weighing about 204,000 tons and imported by 880 companies. The imports included soybeans, wheat, and various oils. The United States was identified as the largest source of food imports into Egypt, followed by Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, and China, among 87 countries exporting to the Egyptian market.Alexandria Port also ranked first for food imports, handling 519 consignments, followed by Port Said with 2 67 and Cairo International Airport with 264.
