Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly recently announced that preparations are underway for the second phase of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS), aiming to enhance healthcare services nationwide. This follows the successful completion of the first phase in multiple governorates.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly's statements came during his visit to the Matrouh Governorate, where he inspected ongoing renovations at the Ras El-Hekma Central Hospital. The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to upgrading healthcare facilities across Egypt, ensuring they are equipped for the UHIS implementation.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar outlined his ministry's strategy to prepare medical facilities in Matrouh, focusing on equipping them with trained staff and necessary resources. The inclusion of Matrouh in the UHIS is seen as crucial for achieving health equity in the region.
Abdel Ghaffar reported that healthcare infrastructure projects in the North Coast currently offer 1,102 beds, with plans to expand to 5,059 beds. Ongoing projects include new hospitals in several locations and an international medical city on the North Coast.
Matrouh Governor Mohamed El-Zamlout confirmed that preparations for healthcare facilities, including infrastructure and equipment, are nearing completion. The goal is to ensure readiness for the UHIS rollout and comprehensive service provision.
During his tour, Madbouly reviewed various departments at Ras El-Hekma Central Hospital, noting upgrades such as increased capacity for neonatal care and intensive care units. The facility also expanded its emergency department and added new medical and surgical services.
National Projects Assistant Health Minister Sherif Mostafa highlighted the hospital's extensive upgrades, including modern medical equipment and increased staffing. These efforts aim to ensure the hospital's full operational readiness.
The deputy health minister emphasized that the additions of modern equipment and specialized staff will support the hospital's capacity to deliver comprehensive medical services.
