FM Calls for Stronger Partnership with Latin American Nations

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's deep-rooted partnership with Latin America, Central America, and the Caribbean, describing the relationship as an essential part of Egypt's connection with the Global South.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting on Sunday, November 9, 2025, with ambassadors from the region in Cairo, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the historic friendship and cultural ties linking the two sides, as well as for Latin American countries' consistent support for Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue.

Abdelatty stated that Egypt is working to expand trade and investment relations, open new markets for Egyptian products, and increase cooperation between business communities and chambers of commerce. He noted that the Free Trade Agreement between Egypt and the Mercosur bloc, in force since 2017, provides major opportunities for stronger trade flows, and he reaffirmed Egypt's determination to overcome any barriers to its implementation.

The minister also referred to ongoing plans for a Brazilian logistics hub in the Suez Canal Economic Zone to facilitate re-exports to regional markets across the Middle East and Africa, turning the zone into a strategic trade gateway. He called for more political consultations, higher-level visits, and deeper cooperation in tourism, especially following the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Additionally, Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt views its relations with Latin America as a comprehensive partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests, adding that Cairo looks forward to a new phase of cooperation across economic, political, and cultural fields.
