Suez Canal Authority Unveils Egypt’s First Locally Built Luxury Yacht

Cairo: The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has inaugurated the first luxury tourist yacht produced by its Suez Canal Company for Modern Boats. This event marks a significant milestone in Egypt's efforts to localize the maritime industry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the newly launched yacht is a 37-meter Sport Fisherman-style vessel, weighing 135 tons and powered by MTU 2,600-horsepower engines. The yacht is equipped with a master suite, four guest rooms, and four crew cabins. It also includes hydraulic systems for bow winches and a rear swimming platform. The interior designs were developed by Studio Vafiadis, with the construction overseen by the Italian classification society RINA.

SCA Chairman Osama Rabie highlighted that the launch embodies the company's vision to advance local shipbuilding under the slogan "Made in Egypt." The aim is to achieve world-class quality and prepare for both regional and international competition. The Suez Canal Company for Modern Boats is also working on additional projects, including the construction of tourist yachts, passenger boats, and a Nile tour taxi unit. Furthermore, the company is completing fiberglass manufacturing facilities in Safaga to enhance production capacity.

Mostafa El-Degishi, CEO of Suez Canal Company for Modern Boats, mentioned that the factory's capabilities will allow for the production of multiple yachts from the new mold. Additionally, two 17-meter passenger boats are being built for the canal authority, each with a capacity of 15 passengers.

During the event, Chairman Rabie inspected new tugboats, fishing vessels, and ongoing mechanical works. He also met with a delegation from Svitzer, a global tug and salvage company, to discuss potential future collaborations.

The launch signifies Egypt's most significant step to date in domestic luxury yacht production and supports the government's broader strategy to enhance the maritime and tourism sectors.
