Cairo: The Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) has made a compelling appeal for the establishment of harmonized regulatory frameworks across the African continent to support food innovation, attract investment, and enhance Africa's global competitiveness.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the call was made during the inaugural meeting of the African task force on modernizing food innovation regulations, which was hosted in Cairo by the National Food Safety Authority. FEI Vice Chairperson Rana Gamaly emphasized the need for science-based and transparent regulatory systems that leverage Africa's rich biodiversity, agricultural resources, and traditional knowledge. She asserted that such systems should encourage innovation rather than be hindered by fragmented legislation.

Gamaly highlighted that flexible regulations would boost investor confidence, facilitate intra-African trade, and enable the responsible introduction of innovative food products while ensuring consumer safety. The meeting, which included representatives from more than 15 African and Asian countries, aims to produce a roadmap with practical recommendations for more efficient regulatory systems. This initiative seeks to advance food security, sustainable development, and the competitiveness of Africa's food industry.
