Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers highlighted the depth and special nature of the fraternal and strategic ties between Egypt and the UAE, noting their continued development across various fields. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation frameworks and building on the current momentum in relations in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The ministers exchanged views on regional developments, stressing the need to intensify efforts to de-escalate tensions, contain the current situation, and return to adherence to the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. Such steps, they noted, would pave the way for renewed political and diplomatic efforts while preventing the conflict from spreading regionally. They further underscored the importance of respecting international law and safeguarding the security, safety, and freedom of international navigation.
Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank amid continued Israeli escalation and violations, the ministers stressed the importance of completing the implementation of all commitments under the first phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan, in line with the announced roadmap. This would contribute to consolidating stability and creating the conditions necessary to advance to subsequent phases of the plan. They also called for an end to Israeli escalatory measures and practices in the West Bank and rejected any actions that could undermine prospects for peace and the two-state solution. They emphasized the importance of preserving the territorial unity of the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The phone call also addressed developments in Sudan, with the two sides exchanging assessments of the latest developments in the crisis and regional and international efforts to address it. They stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultations to support Sudan's security and stability and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.
The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations in the coming period on various issues of mutual concern in a manner that contributes to supporting regional security and stability.
