Cairo: Egypt condemned on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the targeting of vessels in the Red Sea, including the Yemeni commercial vessel TIHAMA, which was flying the Tanzanian flag and was struck by several missiles on August 11, 2026, while sailing off the Yemeni coast south of Mokha Port in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt also deplored the targeting of a Saudi oil tanker on July 25, 2026, describing the attacks as a serious threat to the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, one of the world's most important international waterways.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt categorically rejected all acts targeting vessels and civilian facilities or threatening the security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and international waterways.

Egypt reaffirmed the paramount importance of respecting, ensuring, and protecting freedom of international navigation in all international straits and waterways in a manner that safeguards international trade and global supply chains in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
