Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that Sudan's future must be decided by the Sudanese themselves, emphasizing that any political process must be based on full Sudanese ownership to safeguard the country's resources and meet the aspirations of its people for security and stability.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem, held as part of continued consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries on bilateral relations and developments in Sudan.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's deep appreciation for the longstanding historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Sudan and its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves the interests of both peoples. He also stressed that Egypt would continue providing all forms of support and assistance to Sudan and its people amid the current challenges.

The call addressed the latest developments in Sudan, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt's firm position in support of Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and national institutions, while rejecting any attempts to partition the country or threaten its unity and cohesion.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations in the coming period, strengthen bilateral relations and intensify communication on issues of mutual concern in a manner that supports Sudan's security and stability and safeguards its unity and sovereignty.
